Tasmania has scored a new eco-luxe pod accommodation on Mount George, with its cafe bar now open on weekends.
A new high-altitude escape has arrived in North East Tasmania. The George Tasmania has opened its architecturally designed pod accommodation on Mount George in George Town, offering 270° views across the Tamar River, Bass Strait and the island’s rolling northern landscapes.
The property’s eco-luxe pods are built for a particular kind of slow travel: self-contained, self-sufficient and deliberately unhurried. Each pod features a private entry deck and window seat made for sunrise coffees or watching the light shift over the strait, plus a king bed framed in Tassie oak with organic linen and a skylit bathroom with walk-in shower and luxury fixtures. A well-equipped kitchenette – complete with a full-sized fridge and a toastie maker – means there’s no need to venture far if you’d rather not.
Guests can pre-order locally inspired food and drink packages to find waiting on arrival, or work through the Tasmanian provisions already stocked in the pod and settle up on departure. For those not going fully off-grid, wi-fi, smart TV, Bluetooth speaker and climate control are all included.

Accessibility has been factored in from the outset, with one accessible pod available now. Two larger pods are also expected to join the lineup later in 2026, expanding options for groups or those wanting more space.
Pod accommodation opened on 23 January, with the property’s Cafe Bar following on 14 March. The cafe bar is currently open weekends and public holidays only – worth timing your visit around if you’re after a drink with that view.
